The unfolding architecture and urbanism of Metro Vancouver. Using Vancouver as a laboratory to examine the historical transformation of the built environment, and how this has affected particular activities, land uses, and social groups within the region. Critical analysis of health care trends and oral health care delivery with emphasis on underserved diverse populations. Prerequisite: Pre or Corequisite: DHYG 462

This course engages students in exploring a range of theoretical perspectives underpinning learning and teaching in early childhood contexts, focusing on children between 3-8 years. Historical, philosophical and cultural roots of contemporary early childhood programs will be surveyed. Issues, trends and debates that impact early childhood education will be discussed.

Planning and implementing pre-kindergarten learning experiences; resources, materials, curriculum integration, evaluation, scheduling, and classroom design.

Designing environments, experiences, activities, instruction, and assessment to foster children's learning in the kindergarten year.

This course provides students with an introduction to perspectives related to working with Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) families with infants and children with special needs in Canada, and British Columbia in particular. Students will explore Indigenous perspectives of childhood and lifespan development; Indigenous communities and colonial history; and the importance of culture and identity for the well-being of Indigenous children.

This course is designed to explore the landscape of research in early childhood education. In addition to building knowledge of research as it relates to young children, students will examine the types of research questions posed, the theories and perspectives which inform early childhood researchers, and the ways in which they design, execute, and report their studies.

This course is designed to provide insights into the social and emotional lives of young children. Exploration into the theories and research on some key aspects of social and emotional learning will be examined.

Students will engage in readings, discussions, and group activities as we explore together the ways these concepts can be applied to their own lives and professional work with young children to support both student and professional well-being and resilience.

Economic approaches to long-run global development, international trade, growth, and globalization. Topics include the economics of trade policy, political economy, migration, the environment, foreign investment, and culture in a global context. Students may only receive credit for ECON_V 241 and ECON_V 255 or ECON_V 234 with permission of the instructor. Prerequisite: One of ECON_V 101, ECON_V 310 and one of ECON_V 102, ECON_V 311.

The aggregate economy with emphasis on macroeconomic policy and international economic growth, money and inflation, unemployment, business cycles, and macroeconomic stabilization policy under fixed and flexible exchange rates. Registration restricted to students in the Bachelor of International Economics Program. Credit will be granted for only one of ECON 302, ECON 305 or ECON 309. Economic inequality in Canada and other countries; measurement and causes. Inequality in the distribution of wealth; redistribution of income and wealth; notions of distributive justice. Prerequisite: One of ECON 101, ECON 310 and one of ECON 102, ECON 311.

Traditional fertility and mortality patterns, demographic transition, catastrophes, well-being and nutrition, international and internal migration, epidemics and growth spurts. Prerequisite: One of ECON 101, ECON 310 and one of ECON 102, ECON 311.

Application of economic analysis to marriage, fertility and health, gender inequality in labour markets and unpaid caregiving; the application of sex and gender-based policy analysis to topics related to employment, and technological and social change in current and historical perspectives. Prerequisite: One of ECON 101, ECON 310 and one of ECON 102, ECON 311.
