Africa awareness initiative

UBC Africa Awareness Initiative is committed to improving discourse surrounding and including Africa at the University of British Columbia. In our capacity as UBC students, we aim to produce outstanding academic forums to encourage critical discussions pertaining to the relevance of the African continent and its Diaspora. Our mission is to exceed the layperson’s expectations of how much Africa has to give to the world. We will accomplish this by presenting world-class African scholars, writers, artists and activists representative of the high standard of knowledge being produced about Africa.

Agape Street Missions

UBC Agape is a UBC-affiliated club that works to increase awareness of the social issues affecting street-entrenched individuals in Downtown Vancouver. We hand out food and clothing every Monday and Friday, while also creating a dialogue with those who are homeless.

Allard Law Student Society (ALSS)

The Allard Law Student Society (ALSS) is a student-run organization within the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC. Amnesty International UBC is an AMS club that promotes awareness of human rights around the UBC campus and the Vancouver community. We focus on letter writing campaigns and fostering community knowledge and dialogue. AMS sustainability

AMS Sustainability is a student resource that ensures that ongoing sustainability efforts at the AMS are successful and that student involvement remains at the core of it all. As the sustainability office of the AMS, we have two key roles: (1) To provide connections and resources to students wishing to complete their own sustainability-related projects, such as through the Sustainability Projects Fund (SPF), and; (2) To create and coordinate in house sustainability initiatives within the AMS to build upon the environmental and social responsibility of the students at UBC Vancouver.

Best Buddies UBC

Best Buddies UBC is a chapter of the national Best Buddies organization. We are committed to promoting inclusion of people with disabilities on and off campus. Bike Kitchen

Founded by the UBC Bike Co-op, the Bike Kitchen is UBC's non-profit, student-owned, full-service bike shop. At the Bike Kitchen, you can purchase a fully refurbished and guaranteed used bicycle, donate your old bike and parts, fix your bike with our tools, and learn to fix your bike if you don't already know how. You can also leave your bike for repairs if you're too busy, and choose from a wide selection of new and used parts and accessories.

Climate Justice UBC

Climate Justice UBC, formerly called UBCC350, is a group of students who organize to tackle climate change and its root causes. Through their campaigns, CJUBC advocates for government action on climate policy, political engagement, institutional climate leadership, environmental justice, and Indigenous sovereignty. They are committed to climate action on and off campus and aspire to question the patriarchal, neo-liberal, and colonial system that perpetuates climate inaction and targets communities to disproportionately experience the negative impacts of resource extraction industries and those of climate change.

Engineers for a Sustainable World

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of sustainability in our society. ESW consists of student and professional chapters that undertake engineering and outreach projects in their communities and around the world.

At UBC, our ESW chapter provides an environment where students from any discipline can gain experience with sustainability in the context of engineering design. We seek to solve practical problems in our community. In particular, our biodiesel reactor has been turning waste vegetable oil into fuel for the past several years. We also have projects in solar energy and education, and we’re constantly expanding the scope of our work.

Engineers without Borders UBC

Engineers Without Borders UBC is one of 34 professional and student chapters across the world working to create lasting change and improve the livelihood of people in developing countries. It’s not just for engineers. Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice Undergraduate Society

The GRSJUA is a student-led organization open to all students of UBC. Built on social justice frameworks, the GRSJUA is a safe, anti-oppressive, and anti-exploitative environment on campus for students to connect around topics of diversity, equality, gender, racialization, sexuality, (de)colonization, Indigeneity, representation, and intersectionality. Geography Students Association

The Geography Students’ Association (GSA), founded in 1969, is a student-led organization, supported by UBC’s Department of Geography. We are actively involved in multiple facets, including running social and academic events, which include our infamous GeoGala, Career Fair, GeoTalks, the Geo-garden, and so much more. Additionally, the GSA manages the Trail Six journal, a nationally recognized undergraduate journal of geography. It presents the opportunity for students to submit papers they have written on any topic related to the very broad and multidisciplinary field of geography. Our dedicated sustainability committee focuses on sustainability-related initiatives within the GSA; finding ways to make our events as sustainable as possible, helping find jobs within the field, and bringing together all committees within the GSA.

Geological Engineering Club

GeoRox is an undergraduate club representing all Geological Engineering students at UBC. Our club is one of the oldest at UBC and represents one of the founding programs within the University. GeoRox is a very active student group, both within the Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (EOAS) department and the Engineering Faculty. We proudly run annual events such as the Alumni Dinner, Distinguished Lecture, Geotechnical Engineering Competition (GEC), ‘On the Rox,’ and ‘Christmas in March.’ We also organize education field trips, a peer mentorship program, as well as many industry networking opportunities. GeoRox is one of the most active participants in Intramural Sports at UBC and consistently competes in E-WEEK.

Sprouts is a community-driven organization located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people. Sprouts operates several branching initiatives with community, sustainability, and accessibility as its founding principles. The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm is a teaching and research centre and local-to-global food hub working towards a more sustainable, food-secure future. The UBC Mental Health Network (MHN) is a collective body of representatives of mental health resources and student groups on campus. UBC Sustainability in Residence

Sustainability in Residence is a collaborative partnership between UBC Sustainability & Engineering and Residence Life. Our team develops and organizes engaging sustainable initiatives for over 8,500 students living on campus. UBC Sustaingineering

UBC Sustaingineering is a one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary team with the goal of accelerating the adoption of sustainable energy across the globe. Being a team of 60 strong, we focus on creating sustainable technologies for remote/developing communities, while also educating youth on the important role that sustainable practices will play throughout their lives.

UBC Wellness Centre

Want to learn more about your wellbeing as a student? Interested in topics like healthy eating, sleeping, safer sex and stress management? At the Wellness Centre, Wellness Peer Educators are trained student volunteers who can answer your questions, talk with you, and recommend resources for everyday concerns related to health, relationships, and workload. We also offer regular events and workshops to help you navigate university life.

Varsity Outdoor Club

The Varsity Outdoor Club was founded in 1917 and has a long history for the encouragement of self-propelled and environmentally conscientious wilderness adventure, education and sustainability. Since the clubs’ inception, VOC members have been leaders in outdoor recreation stewardship, with members participating in rock climbing, mountaineering, skiing, hiking, orienteering, mountain biking, cross-country biking, and many other outdoor activities. Today, the VOC is one of the largest student-run clubs with a membership base of 600 to 1000 members, and we welcome all abilities and experience levels to join.

Vegans of UBC

Vegans of UBC aims to educate the UBC community about veganism through activism, outreach, and working with different organizations on campus. WasteNauts Engineering Design Team

WasteNauts is UBC's only Engineering Design Team dedicated to achieving a truly Regenerative and Circular Economy. We blend technical and social approaches to reveal value in materials once considered waste. Our projects range from plastic recycling innovation, biomaterial development and circular economy educational programmes.

Women in Science

The UBC Women in Science Club was founded to provide support for female undergraduates in Science fields. Our club has 3 pillars: Mentorship, Building Community, and Connecting People. Our club offers many events throughout the school year, including networking events with alumni, professional development workshops, and social events. We also offer an ongoing mentorship program. We envision that mentorship and networking relationships between professional women in various science fields and current undergraduate students will help those students through common challenges that arise for women pursuing careers in science.

World Vision UBC

We are the official AMS student-run World Vision club at UBC. Our aim is to raise awareness and funds to improve the lives of the impoverished through World Vision Canada’s initiatives, and to support our four sponsor children from Cambodia, Haiti, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone.
