Through InSPIRE, you can address your own sustainability-related priorities with the help of an interdisciplinary student team, and supported by the Sustainability Hub.
Overview
InSPIRE is currently running as a pilot, with the first cohort of students and projects set to start in January 2027, and complete by April 2027.
The Sustainability Hub is working with a group of faculty advisors to evaluate the InSPIRE pilot, in order to inform future plans for expanding access to InSPIRE in the 2027/2028 academic year.
How it Works
1.Faculty members propose an impactful sustainability project, suitable for an interdisciplinary team of three to five undergraduate students to complete in one term. Sustainability Hub staff help scope the project with the faculty member who will subsequently mentor the student group.
2.The Sustainability Hub advertises projects to undergraduate students in all Faculties and disciplines.Students apply to join specific teams/projects, and the Sustainability Hub staff share a shortlist of student candidates with the faculty mentor. The faculty mentor selects the final student team and the Sustainability Hub administers offers and declines to student applicants. For the 2027 Winter Term 2 pilot, student teams will register via the directed studies course code in the faculty mentor’s department to be eligible for course credit.
3.Faculty mentors are responsible for supervising the student projects, assessing student work, and entering final grades. The Sustainability Hub provides administrative support, including providing assessment rubrics and templates that can be modified to suit a specific project.
