The relationship between human and natural systems in the context of regenerative design. Provides an understanding of how regenerative approaches differ from green design and how they can offer new insights and directions for design.

Current theoretical developments explored through the practice of archaeology. Examples drawn from a range of times and places focusing on emerging technologies, food production, colonial encounters and culture contact, materiality and symbolic systems, social inequality and complexity, and human-environmental interactions.

This course prepares students to work effectively with Indigenous Peoples, communities and organizations in support of ongoing developments in Indigenous culture and languages, self-governance, treaty negotiation and litigation. Credit will only be granted for one of ARST_V 585 or LIBR_V 564. Equivalency: LIBR_V 564.

A survey of the artistic production by Indigenous peoples of North America from pre-contact times to the present.

The institutions and art movements that constructed a view to the country now known as Canada, from colonial contact, to Confederation, through the mid-1900s. Emphasis on the significance of locality and situated approaches to understanding the land.

Examines relations between majority and minority groups in Japanese society and changing definitions of Japan through literature and film from Japan.

Main theories and key concepts with a particular focus on the changing status of women, and gender and sexual minorities.

Modern Korea’s historic moments through a cultural lens. Examines how film as cultural product reflects, challenges, and distorts history. Emphasis on formations of gender, class, and national identities.

Gender politics, family relationships, and women's social, economic, and political roles in post-revolutionary Iran as shown through Iranian cinema.

Trade, diplomacy, war, imperialism, militarism, colonialism, collective memory, mutual perceptions Korean-Japanese relations are examined as an exemplary case for exploring the dimensions of international conflict and partnership.

Women's voices and issues in the Korean literary tradition, from earliest times to the new millennium, in translation. Recommended pre-requisites: one of ASIA 347, ASIA 357. Permission of instructor is also acceptable.

Literary, cinematic, folk, and/or popular culture texts from modern Iran. Emphasis on constructions and contestations of masculinities and femininities, as they intersect with sexuality, race, ethnicity, ability, and/or religion.

This course will examine human-environment relationships through the works of Indigenous scholars from different parts of Asia to understand the position, the context, and the material with which they illuminate Indigenous environmentalism.

An interdisciplinary introduction to the cultures of Canada and Japan, and the interrelations between them. Specific topics vary from year to year but will include themes such as constructing the past; nationalism; self-perceptions; cross-cultural perceptions; multiculturalism in Canada and Japan; images in architecture, film and literature; mythologies.

Theoretical and empirical analysis of the atmospheric boundary layer with particular emphasis on energy and mass exchanges near the Earth's surface. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

This course examines trends in sustainability that are shaping the future of business, government, and society. Using a variety of conceptual frameworks, students will understand the challenges and opportunities that sustainability presents and how to play a leadership role in navigating these issues. Social sustainability and ethical issues around responsible business, inequality, racial justice, and decolonization are also discussed.This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading. [3-0-0]

This course examines the science of understanding the consumer. The focus of this course will be on uncovering consumer insights and interpreting these through the lens of consumer behaviour principles. The term “consumer insight” refers to more than the simple observation and description of what consumers are doing, to moving towards explaining why consumers behave the way that they do. A meaningful consumer insight will drill deeper than surface observations of behavioural patterns into the realm of the underlying psychological processes such as consumer perceptions, emotions, motivations, and values.

Having the capacity to innovate is critical to business success. This course builds on the fundamentals of economics and strategic management that you have learnt in previous courses and explores new concepts that will enable you to excel in innovation. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

Introduction to plant biology, with special emphasis on growth and development, highlighting the biological mechanisms of radiation energy capture, and water and nutrient acquisition in the production of plant biomass. [3-0-0] Prerequisite: BIOL_V 112 and BIOL _V 121
