The origins, achievements, and social impacts of applied technology in the Greek and Roman world from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity (c. 1500 BCE - 400 CE), with special attention to archaeological evidence. Credit will be granted for only one of CLST_V 306 or AMNE_V 306. Equivalency: CLST_V 306.

Women in the Roman world in the culture of the Republic and the Empire. Literary, artistic, and mythological sources are compared and contrasted to historical, legal, and archaeological records. Credit will be granted for only one of CLST_V 312 or AMNE_V 325. Equivalency: CLST_V 312.

Reception, use, and appropriation of biblical texts to support European settler colonialism on Turtle Island (North America), with a focus on British Columbia. Impacts of Christianity on Indigenous communities, including the Indian Act and Residential School system.

Human dimensions of energy resource extraction, production and consumption, emphasizing ethnographic case studies. Critical debates around alternative energy transitions in the context of changing climates, with attention to cultural and historical settings, community perspectives and social justice.

Anthropological perspectives on health, illness, and disability as represented by classic and contemporary research in selected topics in medical anthropology including disease and human evolution, illness and human ecology, culture and epidemiology, ethnomedical systems, the relationship between folk and biomedicine and the cultural construction and social organization of health care, illness and disability. Anthropological approaches to foodways and agricultural sustainability, particularly small-scale producers and communities. Includes ethnographic analysis of food movements, food systems and the socio-economic contexts of food provisioning and food production. Recommended: Third year status.

Principles and practices necessary to understand practical concerns of sustainable food systems. Students who already present credit for APBI 260 are not permitted to receive credit for APBI 265. [1-3-0]

How environmental factors and landpeople relationships control the distribution of soil types in the landscape and the changes of soil properties in space and time. Prerequisite: APBI_V 200.
