Dr. Nancy Turner, Emeritus Professor at the University of Victoria on the topic of Indigenous plants foods and traditional plant management systems of British Columbia First People joins the UBC Future of Food Global Dialogue Series to explore Indigenous plant foods and traditional plant management systems of BC’s First Peoples.

Dr. Turner has had an incredibly interesting career: now an Emeritus Professor at the University of Victoria, Dr. Turner has worked with First Nations elders and cultural specialists in northwestern North America for over 40 years, collaborating with Indigenous communities to help document, retain, and promote their traditional knowledge of plants and habitats, including Indigenous foods, materials, and medicines, as well as language and vocabulary relating to plants and environments.
