In discussions on sustainability, it is often said that we “work, study and learn in silos,” meaning that we only work, learn and make decisions within our field of study, without consulting the other perspectives that could be equally important to achieving a sustainable future.

The Sustainability Across the Curriculum Community of Practice (CoP) aims to break this style of learning and interaction by creating a diverse community of staff, faculty, students, community members, and alumni interested in transforming and advancing sustainability education at UBC and beyond.

Coordinated by the UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) and supported by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), the Sustainability Across the Curriculum CoP organizes events and workshops that allow the UBC community to brainstorm, build connections, and share resources for effectively and creatively integrating sustainability into any curriculum. The best part? Everyone is welcome.

The Sustainability Across the Curriculum CoP is holding its next event on February 7th from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. The event, entitled “Ask an Expert – How to Innovate Sustainability Education and Curriculum,” will explore the experiences of a successful sustainability educator. Julian Gonzalez, will share his knowledge of and experiences with implementing an interdisciplinary sustainability leadership course at UBC that offered undergraduates and graduates the opportunity to learn the art of leading and inspiring transformative action. He will share practical and skillful approaches for effectively incorporating sustainability into any curriculum.

Register for the CoP’s “Ask an Expert” event.
