Tuesday, June 20, 2017 - 18:30

Tue, June 20, 2017 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM UBC FARM. Free and all welcome. Come celebrate the solstice and start of summer with song! Members from community choirs around the city will gather to informally perform and share their love of singing at the UBC Farm and we are sure to get everyone singing along!

Choir director Patti Powell and her choir “Choral Conspiracy” will lead off the singing. Patti is the enthusiastic director of 4 community choirs in the Lower Mainland: these are no-barrier community choirs, meaning that everybody is invited. Members from Roots and Wings choir, directed by Dawn Pemberton, will perform and join in – and then everyone will be invited to sing together!

About Community Choirs:

Community choirs are based on the idea that singing is an essential human birthright, a powerful source of energy and connection, and a potent tool for building communities. It’s also thought that singing in harmony teaches people to celebrate diversity and to practice deep listening.Patti believes everyone has the right the sing – her energy and enthusiasm are inspiring!

This Singing Solstice event, like community choirs, is open to all people from all walks of life, all cultures, all faiths, all abilities. A free community-focused event, Singing Solstice is a chance to celebrate the coming summer, meet friends new and old, and be involved with the neighbourhood. Those who wish to stay after singing are welcome to join a community potluck dinner, bonfire and a lantern parade!
