Wed, April 27, 2016 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM LIU INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL ISSUES. Who benefits from ocean resources? Who gets to decide about their use and protection? And how do we provide for intergenerational equity in the long term through a healthy and resilient ocean? These are some of the questions that were explored by Dr. Marjo Vierros together with colleagues during her Visiting Fellowship at the Liu Institute for Global Issues. This talk will examine how these questions about the use and protection of ocean space and resources feature into the negotiations that started in March at the United Nations for a new international instrument for marine areas beyond national jurisdiction –an area that is also called the global ocean commons.
