Thu, October 24, 2013 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM IRVING K. BARBER LEARNING CENTRE. Free - Please Register. Michele DiPietro, co-author of How Learning Works, believes that "we owe our students a learning environment that fosters metacognitive awareness and a lifelong learning disposition".

Many UBC instructors have engaged in learning theory to develop learning activities that support the teaching values that DiPietro espouses. And, the university's recently launched Flexible Learning Initiative and its strategic plan, Place and Promise, demonstrate UBC's commitment to these values at an institutional level.

Join CTLT and a panel of experienced instructors to explore some of the research-based principles that frame How Learning Works and ways to apply current theory of how people learn to teaching practice. Participants will leave the session with a framework to consider when work through learning and course designs.

Location: Irving K. Barber Learning Centre - Room 302, Dodson Room
