Sat, October 17, 2015 12:00 PM - Sun, October 18, 2015, 12:00 PM UBC Point Grey Campus. $10/participant . LFS|US is hosting its first-ever Feeding 9 Billion Challenge!

On October 17th & 18th, the Feeding 9 Billion Challenge will take place at UBC and 3 other universities across Canada. This creative and inspirational 18 hour challenge creates an exciting environment to develop innovative projects

The Feeding 9 Billion Challenge gives you the opportunity to create projects to address real food systems issues. These projects can be anything from educational campaigns to building a new form of technology!

There will be cash prizes for winners, exciting door prizes plus the opportunity to network with other students and experts in the field of sustainable food systems and social entrepreneurship. First place is $1000, second place is $750 and third place is $500!!!

But we do not want your projects to end with the Challenge. The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems and the UBC Farm will serve as a “living laboratory” for students to test out their environmentally, economically and socially sustainable solutions to food systems issues. All ideas are welcome: groups can create anything from an educational campaign to building equipment to address a specific issue at the Farm.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: You are not required to prepare for the Feeding 9 Billion Challenge and knowledge of the UBC Farm is NOT a prerequisite! We will provide you with any information you may need.

EVERYONE is welcome! Students will be grouped into interdisciplinary team or students can register in pairs or in groups; however if you choose to do this please ensure that AT LEAST 2 faculties are represented!

The Challenge itself will run from 2 pm on October 17th until 8 am on October 18th! There will be time before for introductions and time after for judging and prizes! So, the entire event itself will be around 24 hours! Food will be served throughout.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact f9bubc@gmail.com with your questions!

Registration deadline is October 2nd!
