Fri, October 14, 2016 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM See description. FREE. Discover a different perspective on innovation with intellectual omnivore Vaclav Smil. A prolific author, scientist, and professor, in 2010 Foreign Policy magazine named him to its list of FP Top 100 Global Thinkers.

Smil is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Environment the University of Manitoba where he conducts interdisciplinary research in the fields of energy, innovation, environmental and population change, food production and nutrition, technical innovation, risk assessment, and public policy.

He’s published nearly 500 papers and more than 37 books, which you’ll find peppering Bill Gates’ bookshelf. Here’s why Bill Gates loves to read him:

“Above all, I love to read Smil because he resists hype. He’s an original thinker who never gives simple answers to complex questions. He gives me a lot to think about on my drive to work, before my first Diet Coke of the day.”

We think he’ll get your neurons firing too!

Join us at Vancouver’s Sheraton Wall Centre on October 14, 2016 for a free public talk where Smil will draw from his expansive background to explore innovation and what he calls “Moore’s curse.” His original insights on big questions can help us to better understand how we go to where we are, and with that better understand where we might go from here.

Come early to connect with peers from leading organizations across Vancouver and to explore a poster session featuring some of nuclear physics research being discussed at the APS-DNP 2016 Fall Meeting.
