Climate Change: Myths and Realities

A few misconceptions cloud public perceptions of the issue of human induced climate change.

David Archer, Peter Wall International Visiting Research Scholar and Professor of Geographical Sciences from the University of Chicago, will give an overview of the climate change situation that confronts us. By comparing the various greenhouse gases (CO2 vs. methane) and fossil fuels (oil, gas, and coal), Archer will outline a framework and context within which to rank priorities for our response to climate change.

“We need to keep our eye on the ball to solve this, and the ball in this case is CO2 emission from coal combustion, rather than, say, methane emissions by fracking, or stimulated emissions of methane from the Arctic,” says Archer.
