At UBC, we're all working to reduce our waste. Through proper waste sorting, composting, and recycling, we can divert waste away from the landfill which helps protect the climate and environment.

Learn to sort like a pro by playing the Sort it Out waste sorting game, and have a chance to win an instant prize or be entered in a monthly draw. 

Just click "play" below, and at the end of the game click “Go to Leaderboard” and enter your information including your email. You can then spin for an instant prize, and if you don’t win you’ll still be entered into the next monthly prize draw.

If you win, you will receive an email at the address you entered with further instructions to claim your instant prize after certifying your eligibility.

Contest Terms 

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled UBC Vancouver students, aged 18 and above.  

Entry Frequency

  • Each individual user can enter the contest once per day. If they do not win immediately, they are automatically entered into the monthly draw. 

Instant Prize Limitation

  • Each individual user can win a prize only once.  

Selection of Prize Winners

  • The Prize Winner will be randomly selected during the Prize Draw from the qualified entries.  

Odds of Winning

  • Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries received. 

Availability of Prizes

  • Prizes are limited in number. Once all available prizes have been awarded, no prizes will be awarded until additional prizes are available. Prizes are only available during the contest promotional period(s), to be determined by UBC.  

Prize Draw Selection Process

  • Winners are selected randomly from all valid entries received during the promotional period.  
  • On screen draw animations are for display only. Winners are determined by the contest server prior to animation.   

Notification and Claiming Prizes

  • All Prize Winners will be notified via email and must verify that they are eligible to claim the prize. Prizes must be claimed within 14 days.

  • Any personal information is collected and used for the sole purpose of the administration of the Contest under the authority of section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.  
  • This privacy policy sets out how UBC uses and protects any information that you give when you use this website.
  • UBC may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from August 1st, 2017.  
  • We may collect the following information:  
    • First and last name  
    • Email address  
    • Demographics: student, staff, faculty, community member or other  
    • Your score and responses to this game  

What We do With the Information we Gather

  • This information will be used for data gathering and analysis purposes of understanding how UBC stakeholders play this game. If user emails or names are submitted, these are used to email contest prize information to the user and to keep track of who has entered the contest or won prizes. It will not be sold or shared with third parties. 
  • Our website may contain links to enable you to visit other websites of interest easily. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement.
