This graduate seminar examines theoretical, research, and practical issues related to the identification and support of students with learning disabilities. It assists students in understanding the origin of the concept of learning disabilities, evaluating the strengths and limitations of the learning disability label, identifying difficulties faced by students who have been labeled learning disabled, and evaluating intervention strategies designed to support students with learning disabilities. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

Investigates sociocultural research, pedagogies, and historically significant and emerging concepts, including situated learning, development as cultural participation, knowledge / identity, mediation, artifacts. EPSE 403 focuses on recent research and best practices regarding the inclusion of individuals withintellectual/ developmental disabilities (I/DD) in educational communities. After reviewing the historyof services for persons with I/DD, evidence-based practices which support the fullest possibleinclusion of diverse learners will be explored, as well as strategies to address the needs of studentswith more complex learning and/or behavioral challenges.
