This hybrid course aims to enhance the awareness of diverse knowledge systems (including western scientific, local, Indigenous) and their implications for decision-making and policy among students in the Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Stewardship’s four course-based master’s programs (MGEM, MSFM, MUFL, and MIF). It addresses power dynamics between these knowledge systems and introduces strategies for equitable co-production of environmental management decisions.

This course will focus on the lives and experiences of young people and explore the concept of resilience from complex systems and social justice perspectives. We will take a collaborative and relational approach and develop our understanding of resilience science prioritizing voices of young people, integrating the complex structure of life into its content, utilizing multi-disciplinary and culturally sensitive language, aiming for systemic changes as well as individual changes, and prioritizing prevention over medical models. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.
