Integrating research from a recent qualitative study, this talk considers the state of Indigenous knowledge systems in post secondary sites. In reflecting upon the ‘relations of Indigenous engagement’, Little Bear’s (200) notion of “ambidextrous consciousness” is helpful in revealing the complexities of nurturing an Indigenous sensibility in the academy while reminding us of the power of the classroom as a site of transformation toward a more socially just society.Thursday, August 15, 2013 | 1:30–3:30 p.m. | Scarfe 200
