A blend of classroom and field discussion with hands on learning of the basics of pruning, including: Safety, tools and their maintenance, reasons for pruning, methods and timing of pruning, and more!

Instructor: Paul Buikema, Horticulturist and proprietor of Progress Landscaping - Paul Buikema is the sole proprietor of Progress Landscaping, since 2003, a firm that operates throughout Metro Vancouver. Paul has extensive experience in the retail garden center sector having worked for 6 nurseries with wholesale and retail operations. Paul is actively involved in the industry as a volunteer with the BC Landscape & Nursery Association, a member of the steering committee developing the BC Arborist Apprenticeship program. Paul also leads arborist walks at Riverview Hospital a few times a year on behalf of the Riverview Horticulture Center Society. Paul has spoken in various garden clubs and groups over the last 20 years and at a number of local nurseries special events and most recently at the Inspiration Garden in Coquitlam delivering talks on pruning and lawn care. Paul has a number of industry certifications including: ISA Certified Arborist, Certified Tree Risk Assessor, Landscape Industry Certified CHT (Retail), Sign off authority for BC Arborist Apprentice program.
