This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders Pre-University Program for high school students ages 15-18, and is offered at UBC Vancouver. This program offers the option to stay in a UBC student residence during the program or commute daily.

Gain an understanding of the mind-body connection in this introduction to health psychology. Explore current research topics, including health promotion, disease prevention, stress and coping, social support, health disparities, management of chronic and terminal illness, and caregiving. We pay special attention to the biopsychosocial model, which emphasizes the interactions among physical, mental/emotional and social factors in health and healthcare.

This course is ideal if you’re interested in health-related fields such as medicine, psychology, kinesiology, nursing or counselling.

Your instructor
DRAKE LEVERE is a PhD student in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. Drake’s current projects focus on support interactions in families that are dealing with stress, sexual consent negotiations in at-risk populations, and support and coping responses in chronically ill and traumatically stressed populations. Drake is the co-host of Brain Buzz, a podcast that makes research fun, accessible and engaging for everyone.
