Adrienne Tang | Arts Undergraduate Society
Adrienne is a fifth-year Human Geography student. Originally from Hong Kong, she currently serves as the VP Administration of the Arts Undergraduate Society. She hopes to bring her background in community engagement and climate justice to the Sustainability Student Council. As a member of the SSC, Adrienne aims to strengthen existing sustainability initiatives by fostering connections and collaborations that advance accessible, diverse approaches to resilience and climate action. She is most energized when working at the intersection of climate action, wellness, and community belonging, and she aspires to uplift diverse voices while contributing to sustainability efforts across campus.
Alex Xia | Sustainability Ambassadors
Alex is a second-year student studying Urban Forestry at UBC, and he comes from Toronto. He is passionate about sustainable development and a circular economy, and is a part of the SSC representing the Sustainability Ambassadors program. In his free time, Alex loves exploring new places around Vancouver while listening to his favourite music. He’s excited to collaborate with other members of the SSC to explore sustainable initiatives around campus this year!
AnnaJulia Yates | Civic Circuit
AnnaJulia Yates (she/her) is a second-year student studying physics and philosophy and representing the Civic Circuit on the Student Sustainability Council. A science policy lover with research experience in nuclear energy development, she looks forward to promoting the club’s mission of uniting technical innovation and civic leadership. AnnaJulia feels strongly that, to be effective, climate solutions must be built across disciplines, faculties, and communities. She is excited to be part of a council that provides a space to work collectively toward sustainability for all of UBC. Outside of class and work, AnnaJulia is usually found rowing, backpacking, or reading.
Freyja Drover | UBC Botany Enthusiasts Club
Habiba Akl | Enactus UBC
Habiba Akl ia a second-year Bachelor of Commerce student at the UBC Sauder School of Business, intending to specialize in Finance and Entrepreneurship. She currently serves as Co-Project Director of Rekindle, an Enactus UBC venture that repurposes wood waste into sustainable products, and as Finance and Outreach Coordinator for UBC Solar, a student engineering design team building a solar-powered race car. She also co-led the CUS Sustainability Case Competition and served as Youth Head Delegate for the VSBSC. Through SSC, she hopes to amplify student perspectives and drive community-based climate solutions.
Hannah Ramos | Vegans of UBC
Hannah is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health. She is passionate about exploring nutrition security through the lens of sustainability and intersectionality. As the Sustainability Lead for the Vegans of UBC club, she aims to highlight how our food choices impact both human and planetary health. Her goal is to advocate for campus meals that are climate-friendly, nutritionally balanced, and enjoyable to eat. Through the SSC, she hopes to contribute ideas that foster a more sustainable, inclusive, and forward-thinking approach to food systems at UBC.
Inigo Montoya | Allard's Environmental Law Group
Inigo Montoya is a second-year student at the Peter A. Allard School of Law. From his keen interest in sustainable development, Inigo previously worked with Environment and Climate Change on impact assessments of natural resource projects. He is representing Allard’s Environmental Law Group (ELG) and is excited to be joining the Council this year! The ELG seeks to connect students with environmental law and environmental justice issues. He is the Social Director at the ELG and looks forward to the opportunity to engage in the Council’s sustainability projects and to inspire involvement within the UBC community.
Ivy Jiang-Landon | UBC Environmental Policy Association
Ivy Jiang-Langdon is one of the VP Events of UBC's Environmental Policy Association and is a 2nd year student studying Urban Studies and Geology. She believes that a major part of sustainability is community and fostering joy through it-- a big part of her interest in joining the Student Sustainability Council is the connection of students across faculties, interests, and experiences to hopefully discuss and co-create what sustainability actions occur at UBC. She was raised in Toronto, but has been calling Vancouver home since 2019-- she is absolutely in love with the nature and culture that surrounds us in so-called Vancouver. Ivy is so incredibly excited to contribute to conversations with students passionate about sustainability and start environmentally-based projects for UBC's student base.
Jeeyanshi Gupta | UBC Geography Student Association
Jeeyanshi Gupta is a fourth-year student at UBC studying Environment and Sustainability, with a minor in GIS. Apart from being a part of the Geography Students’ Association’s Sustainability Committee, which serves to implement sustainability initiatives within the club, Jeeya is also a volunteer with the Youth Climate Ambassadors Program at UBC. She is passionate about the environment and contributing to protecting it in any way she can. Outside of school, Jeeya is an avid rock climber and loves to be outdoors in nature. With this experience, she is excited about collaborating with like-minded individuals and helping to improve UBC’s sustainability practices.
Jeremy Han | UBC Law and Society Chats
Jeremy is a settler learning, living and working between the ancestral, traditional and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people. Jeremy is a 3d year Arts student at the University of British Columbia. He is very passionate about community, governance, leadership and creating spaces where people feel heard and represented. He is excited to promote various sustainability initiatives at UBC and to work alongside like-minded people on the council. Outside of school and work, Jeremy enjoys music in all capacities and being involved with the nonprofit sector. He is thrilled to be on this year's council!
Julia Shim | Dental Undergraduate Society
Julia is a third-year student in the dentistry program, representing the Dental Undergraduate Society. Growing up in North Vancouver, she developed a deep appreciation for the natural world and a lasting passion for sustainability. Outside of school, she enjoys skiing and chasing sunsets. In her role, she hopes to bridge the gap between healthcare and environmental advocacy on campus. Julia looks forward to drawing on her diverse network at UBC to bring fresh perspectives to the council and is excited to collaborate with dedicated peers to advance sustainability initiatives across campus.
Kiana Roshanzamir | Project Sunshine UBC
Kiana is representing UBC Project Sunshine, a student-led initiative aiming to bring fun and games to pediatric patients across Vancouver's local hospitals. Kiana is in her third year of Integrated Sciences, studying Neuroscience and Ecology. She is passionate about the environment and how a more sustainable one can positively affect mental health, alongside many other things. Kiana is excited to be able to apply her passion for protecting our ecosystems and spread the knowledge gained from this council. As co-president of the club, Kiana hopes to bring forward more sustainable activities and toy materials for pediatric patients. Kiana is looking forward to contributing to this amazing council and finding positive, environmentally friendly changes to bring forward to her community.
Liah Mah | Agora Cafe
Liah is a 3rd-year undergraduate student in the Faculties of Science and Arts and represents Agora Cafe on the Student Sustainability Council (SSC). Agora is a student volunteer-run nonprofit organization devoted to addressing food insecurity by providing affordable lunches on campus. In terms of sustainability, Agora offers vegetarian and vegan options and often works in collaboration with the Agronomy Gardens to distribute excess harvest, avoiding food waste. As an Assistant Manager, Liah is primarily focused on improving efficiency, reducing cost and waste, and ensuring adherence to food safety regulations. She is passionate about environmental sustainability and climate change, and has volunteered previously with a local watershed group as well as through the Canadian Wildlife Foundation to promote and address these issues. Liah hopes to continue this work through her position on the SSC.
Macy Chen | Enactus UBC
Mary Haanen | UBC Student Environment Centre
Mary serves as the Co-Chair of the Student Environmental Centre, leading an AMS resource group dedicated to funding sustainability initiatives across the UBC community. Currently in her fourth year of studying Forest Resource Management, she is also involved in research, working for the Wildlife Coexistence Lab. You’re bound to find her in this swinging axes at the logger sports Timberdome or at the UBC craft fair selling her up-cycled jewelry. In SSC, she seeks to connect sustainability projects with the funding resources necessary to cultivate meaningful change within the broader UBC community.
Maryem Ben Hallam | UBC Student Environment Centre
Maryem was born and raised in Morocco, where her love for the Atlantic Ocean, Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert innately transformed into environmental stewardship. She moved to Canada to pursue this passion through an undergraduate degree in Environment and Sustainability, which has since evolved into diverse experiences across educational, governmental, and corporate settings. As a General Executive at the UBC Student Environment Center, Maryem is thrilled to work alongside a dedicated and passionate community at the Student Sustainability Council. Her hopes for this committee center around advancing climate dialogue, promoting equity in sustainability, and bridging the gap between policy and actionable change across campus. Beyond sustainability, she enjoys playing any racket or ball sports and also finds peace in cooking and baking.
Mina Lander | UBC Environmental Science Student Association
Mina is a fifth-year student settler learning, working, and living between the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm [Musqueam] people. She studies Environmental Sciences and Cognitive Systems, and is representing the Environmental Science Student Association (ESSA) on this council. By serving on this council, she hopes to connect students from different clubs/departments to sustainability-related events and environmental activism/mutual aid across the Greater Vancouver Area. She is excited to be a part of meaningful dialogues around environmentalism, sustainability, and accessible action with this community. Mina is also passionate about spending time outside, biking, knitting, and exploring Vancouver.
Olatomide Ojajune | Student-at-large
Olatomide is from Nigeria and is a climate educator and founder of TalkClimateAfrica, a platform dedicated to advocacy, awareness, and community engagement on climate action. She has equipped over 1,000 individuals with climate knowledge and authored YOU and THE EARTH, available in both eBook and print, to simplify sustainability for everyday living. Olatomide is a Climate Justice Youth Ambassador in Nigeria and has collaborated with organizations to promote sustainable practices. Through the Student Sustainability Council, she hopes to contribute her experience in climate communication, inspire inclusive dialogue, and help design practical initiatives that empower students to take meaningful climate action.
Rachel Dong | Science Undergraduate Society
Sophia Li | Common Energy UBC
Sophia (she/her) is a 4th-year student representing Common Energy UBC, where she serves as VP Internal. Common Energy is a student-run organization striving to incorporate sustainability in all aspects of campus life. From Zero Waste to Food systems, we hope to make these practices more accessible to all. Growing up in Vancouver, she has developed a strong interest in the environment, sustainability, and community resilience. Sophia looks forward to collaborating with a diverse and interdisciplinary student body who are dedicated to creating meaningful change in communities.
Tanay Suresh | UBC Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice Undergraduate Association
Tanay is a final-year student, pursuing GRSJ and Psychology. He’s excited to represent the GRSJUA this year, a student-led organization built on social justice frameworks, centred on creating and advocating for safe, anti-exploitative, and sustainable environments on campus. Tanay was raised in Singapore, and now lives and learns on the yet-to-be-returned territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm people. His interests lie in public policy, understanding transnational solidarities, and community-engaged action towards social justice. He loves to talk about his favourite reads and niche obsessions. When he’s free, he loves hiking, going to the beach, and horse riding!
Yalda Khaje | Arts Undergraduate Society
Yalda Khaje is a third-year Bachelor of Arts student majoring in Cognitive Systems under the Cognition and Brain specialization. This is her first year as the Associate Vice President of Sustainability at the Arts Undergraduate Society, but she was previously a Sustainability Coordinator as well. Yalda grew up in Calgary and was surrounded by discussion and community work related to land-based climate change mitigation solutions, renewable energy awareness, and how climate change has affected the Albertan ecosystem during her upbringing. She is interested in sustainability and joining the Student Sustainability Council at UBC because she believes that climate change and all related sustainability initiatives should be spearheaded by students to ignite long-term change for the success of humankind in the future. Yalda is eager to contribute to the SSC by navigating how to endorse sustainability initiatives on campus to the Arts student body and beyond!
