POLI 375 Global Environmental Politics

Offerings respond to current policy debates, topics of emerging interest, availability of visiting scholars, and interest in non-traditional courses incorporating practitioner expertise, interest in particular disciplinary perspectives missing from core courses and electives, and interest in specific regions or countries.

POLI 351 Environmental Politics and Policy

Domestic and international determinants of environmental policy; alternative approaches to environmental protection. The sustainable development paradigm; public opinion and interest group pressures; risk assessment; mandatory, voluntary and market-based policy instruments. Prerequisite: All of POLI 100, POLI 101, POLI 240. Or third-year standing or higher.

MINE 455 Mine Water Management

Climate science and impacts including: carbon management options; mitigation and energy system changes; efficiency options; 'end-of-pipe' solutions; vulnerability and adaptation to climate change; carbon economics and organization-level strategies in a carbon-constrained world.

LAW 587 Environmental Law

A foundation course dealing with the regulatory and policy framework for the protection of the environment in Canada, such as pollution control and biodiversity conservation. Credit will only be granted for one of LAW_V 587 or LAW_V 387. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

GEOS 300 Microscale Weather and Climate

Meteorology and climatology at the micro-, local, and meso-scales. Interactions between land surfaces and atmosphere. Basics of atmospheric turbulence and transfer processes. Microclimates on scales of a leaf to those of a large valley. Recommended prerequisites: one of GEOB_V 200, GEOS_V 200, GEOB_V 204, GEOS_V 204, ATSC_V 201. [3-0-0] Credit will be granted for only one of GEOB_V 300 or GEOS_V 300. Equivalency: GEOB_V 300.
