Fri, November 27, 2015 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM FOREST SCIENCES CENTRE. Dr Hugh Possingham, Australian Laureate Fellow and professor of mathematics and professor of ecology at the University of Queensland is one of the UBC Honorary Degree Recipients during this Fall Convocation.

Abstract:
Conservation researchers almost all want to have an impact on the real world, not just in the scientific world. They would like their research to change management practices and policy, which will in turn lead to fewer extinctions and more resilient ecosystems. In this talk Dr Possingham will tell stories about successes and failures in translating research into practice. Every story is very different, but they are all predictably unpredictable.

The Faculty of Forestry will also be holding our annual research evening in conjunction with this lecture and hosting a reception from 5:30 to 6:30 (following Dr Possingham’s talk). The posters will display current research by our graduate students, post docs and faculty members.
