Legal and policy issues relating to the health care system, including legal aspects of individual and public health decision-making.

A foundation course dealing with the regulatory and policy framework for the protection of the environment in Canada, such as pollution control and biodiversity conservation. Credit will only be granted for one of LAW_V 387 LAW_V 587.

Using climate litigation as the focus, this seminar provides students with opportunities todevelop competencies to be effective legal advocates before the courts and other regulatorybodies. Consistent with international trend, increasingly environmental defenders in Canada are using the court system to hold governments and other actors accountable for their contributions to climate change. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

Explore the human right to a healthy environment and the rights of nature through the stories of environmental lawyers and defenders worldwide who struggle for environmental justice through law. No pre- or co-requisites. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

In Term 1, this course will familiarize students with a number of forensic science disciplines, and explore the fundamental scientific principles that underlie forensic evidence. The seminar explores foundational texts and treaties in international human rights, international humanitarian and international criminal law necessary to undertake the IJHR Clinic case and project work in the Fall and Spring Practicum. [2-0] or [3-0]

Analysis of topics such as jurisdiction, immunity from prosecution, mutual assistance in penal matters, recognition and enforcement of foreign penal laws, and international police cooperation; examination of selected offences such as war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, and torture.
