On April 22, 1970, millions of people across the United States took to the streets to protest the negative impacts of 150 years of industrial development. Earth Day is now a global event each year, with more than 1 billion people in 192 countries taking part. On April 22, 2020, we are celebrating 50 years of Earth Day.

Earth Day Network, the organization that leads Earth Day worldwide, has chosen the theme for 2020 of “Climate Action”. Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable.

At the end of 2020, nations will be expected to increase their national commitments to the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. The time is now for citizens to call for greater global ambition to tackle our climate crisis.

Host your own Earth Day

Hosting an Earth Day event in your community is a wonderful way to bring people together, promote action, and send a message to local policy makers.
