Through partnerships with the private, public and NGO sectors, UBC is able to expand its expertise on sustainability and reach beyond campus. As a research institution, UBC is at the leading edge of innovation, merging teaching, research, inquiry and strategy to pioneer change.

Partnerships can do for the University what we cannot do alone:

• Private sector partners can commercialize and take in to the marketplace the outcomes of our collaborative efforts;
• Public sector partners can work with us around regulations and policies, then share findings with other communities;
• NGO sector partners can help us with social license and community engagement issues, then take the lessons learned into the wider world.

Partners contribute different expertise, human capital and resources to projects that may otherwise be unavailable to universities.  In return, partners are able to work alongside researchers and operational staff to test ideas at scales comparable to what would be found in a municipality.
