Graduate Student Internship in Beijing.

 For the third year, UBC is offering an exciting summer graduate student internship focused on sustainable building practices. Three UBC graduate students will travel to Beijing in July 2013 and participate in a two-month work experience practicum with UBC partner Modern Green Development.

Students will receive:

• funding for flights
• shared accommodation
• transportation
• visas
• moderate living expenses while in Beijing

• Other costs are expected to be assumed by the students.

Modern Green Development is one of China’s largest property developers and has developed more than 10 million square feet of green buildings in China and Australia using geothermal heating, energy-saving technologies and other sustainable building practices.  It's best-known project is Grand MOMA, an eight-building, 213,000 square-metre mixed-use residential, school and hotel development in Beijing.

In 2011 Modern Green Development and UBC entered into a strategic partnership to advance green building research and development at UBC. The 2011 internship was featured in a November story in UBC Reports.

Application criteria

• UBC graduate students studying in areas related to green building design and development are invited to apply.
• Students must be in good academic standing with the University.
• Fluency in Mandarin is not essential but will be considered a strong asset.
• Students must be eligible to travel to China, and must be willing to assume any risks associated with this travel.  Participants will be responsible for arranging for their own travel documents, as well as their own travel and health insurance.

• A copy of your most recent academic transcript (an unofficial version is sufficient);
• Your resume in English and, additionally, in Mandarin in possible.
