The University of British Columbia community is only as strong as the bond between its members. A university with a solid community dynamic can promote engagement in sustainability learning and practice and build a culture of sustainability both on and off campus. Our campus community is large and diverse and includes not only students, staff and faculty, but also residential neighbours, First Nations, business partners, government, research partners and University alumni, and the general public.
UBC is engaging the general public through presentations, tours, events, and continuing education that bring together students, researchers, staff, faculty and the public to find solutions. We are also working actively with all our campus community members on specific initiatives, such as Alumni Weekend and International Orientations.
Aside from collaborations on the UBC campus, we also work with off-campus partners, such as government, utilities, business and community groups, to address sustainability issues at UBC. Some key partners include BC Hydro, which works with UBC to address energy conservation through the Power Smart program, and Pulse Energy, a leading energy management software technology providing UBC with innovative solutions to manage its energy consumption on campus.
These and many other outreach relationships provide UBC and its community with the opportunity to work together on shared outcomes and goals that contribute to an inclusive and sustainable future.
