Culture is defined as the way of life, customs and beliefs of a particular group of people at a particular time. UBC is working hard to facilitate a culture of sustainability on campus and to embed sustainability into the DNA of its operations so that over time, operating sustainably will shift from being a conscious effort to an innate process. It will become the way things are naturally done at UBC.
Although culture is created through collective movement, it begins with individual action, and sustainability learning and practice is supported by a number of initiatives and programs at UBC. From student-led activities and sustainability programs to public events and initiatives with off-campus partners, stakeholders are engaged in various activities that enhance sustainability on campus.
UBC is a hub of ideas and innovation, and is also integrating sustainability into its academic pursuits by using the campus as a living lab and inspiring and challenging the next generation of sustainability thought leaders.
