The Operational Management Group is a key member of the UBC Sustainability Initiative. This small group of senior staff represent UBC's Campus & Community Planning, Infrastructure Development, Building Operations, Supply Managment, Student Housing and Hospitality Services, and Risk Management.
Within Campus & Community Planning, the Campus Sustainability Office (CSO) coordinates the University’s numerous operational sustainability initiatives and provides a central hub on the Vancouver campus to engage with the campus community and facilitate operational sustainability learning and practice.
The CSO’s activities support the University’s Place and Promise sustainability goals of developing UBC as a living laboratory for environmental and social sustainability, and embedding sustainability as a central component of its operations.
UBC is a world leader in campus sustainability initiatives that provide research and teaching opportunities while meeting the operational needs of the campus.

Orion Henderson Orion is the Director, Operational Sustainability at the University of British Columbia. In this role, he directs the activities of the Campus Sustainability Office (CSO). The Office is responsible for facilitating the identification and implementation of sustainability initiatives in the planning, development and operation of the campus lands and facilities, for engaging the community in sustainability initiatives and creating incentives for sustainable behaviours among staff faculty and students. Orion develops strategic plans for the CSO and is responsible for directing the development, planning, managing, monitoring and evaluation of CSO programs. Orion received his BEng in Chemical Engineering from CIT, Ireland and his MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, England.

Lillian Zaremba Lillian oversees the implementation of the Climate Action Plan and is responsible for campus greenhouse gas reporting. She also manages projects that conserve energy in buildings. Lillian received her B.Sc.(Eng) in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph and her M.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering from UBC. |

Waleed Giratalla Waleed is responsible for the long-range planning and activities related to UBC's solid waste and water conservation goals and programs. Waleed completed his BSc in Civil (Environmental) Engineering at the University of Alberta in 2004, and his MSc at UBC’s School of Community and Regional Planning with a focus in urban design. Waleed has years of related experience in both the public and private sector, including three years as a consulting engineer. |

Brenda Sawada Brenda is the founder and coordinator of UBC SEEDS (Social, Ecological, Economic, Development Studies), Canada's only campus initiative bringing together students, staff and faculty to specifically address sustainability issues. Before joining UBC, Brenda co-founded the Sage Foundation in Vancouver to raise awareness about sustainability. |

Liska Richer Liska co-manages the UBC SEEDS (Social, Ecological, Economic, Development Studies) Program. She is currently a PhD Candidate in UBC’s Faculty of Land & Food Systems, and has a BA in Sociology. Since 2004, Liska has worked on a jointly initiated SEEDS program, - the UBC Food System Project, which strives to create a more sustainable food system at UBC. |

Kara McDougall Kara oversees the coordination, support and enhancement of Campus Sustainability’s engagement programs including Sustainability Coordinators, UBC SEEDS, Sustainability in Rez and the Green Research Program. Kara is also responsible for overseeing the development of a forthcoming Engagement Strategy which will outline actions to engage students, staff, faculty in UBC’s operational sustainability goals. Kara received her BA in International Studies and Sustainable Community Development from Simon Fraser University and a Diploma in Permaculture Design from the UK. |

Anke Sieb Anke is involved in reporting, and research projects. Before joining UBC she worked in the communications department of a publishing house for sustainability. She earned her Master in Political Science at the University of Cologne in Germany and is currently working on a Masters in Environmental Sciences through distance education. |
